About
Local Events

Fort Thomas, known as “The City of Beautiful Homes,” is over 145 years old. In 1877 the United States Army selected Fort Thomas as a site for a military post because of its lovely rolling highlands and location overlooking the Ohio River. The city is named in honor of General George Henry Thomas. There are still remnants from the time when the city was a fortification. A stone water tower is now a landmark and stands at the front of Tower Park.

You won’t find industry here, but you will find a closely-knit community of over 16,000 residents. Virtually all prices and styles of homes are offered. They share the common trait of being well-kept. Lovely older homes as well as newer ones along tree-shaded streets are the norm. Many streets have houses which offer highly sought after river views or city views. There are few “through” streets – most are cul-de-sacs.

Transportation

Public transportation is provided by TANK, the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky. Interstate 471 and US 27 provide quick access to Cincinnati.

Hospitals

St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas is located in the city. Emergency medical service (EMS) is available. Doctors’ offices are scattered throughout the city. Quick access to Cincinnati hospitals is available via I-471.

Shopping

Local merchants provide a variety of necessities. Major malls and Cincinnati shopping opportunities are just minutes away.

Recreation

The Campbell County YMCA offers indoor and outside pools as well as racquetball and fitness facilities. There is a private swim club plus the Highland County Club where golf is available to members. A large armory offers gymnasium facilities which are open to all ages at designated times. Volleyball leagues are formed each fall for indoor fun. Football, basketball, softball and soccer leagues are organized yearly.'Tower Park' is the largest with almost 87 acres. The Armory Gymnasium and Rec Center is located here along with picnic areas, walking trails, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, play areas, baseball field and an amphitheater. 'Highland Hills Park' with its 77 acres has picnic areas, walking trails, play area, baseball/soccer field, volleyball and basketball courts, a nine-hold disc golf course and a dog park. 'Rossford Park' features baseball and soccer fields, a walking trail, play area and one shelter. 'Riggs Memorial Park' has picnic and play areas. There are also several baseball, football and soccer fields in the city.

The Fort Thomas Military and Community Museum shows off local treasures and items from The Beverly Hills Suppler Club Fire.

Fort Thomas hosts several events annually including a holiday walk as well as an Independence Day Celebration with a classic car show, music, food and a parade.
